water from rain and snow causes the seed to grow. In the same way that God gives his word to the people for their benefit, so also he gives seed to the sower and the rain that causes it to grow. Not surprisingly, in Jewish thought Isa 55 was viewed as describing the study of Torah. The word of God will not return to him void. It will accomplish his purpose. When disciples put it into practice, it gives life. One must understand the purpose of the parables.
